How Much Will My Car Insurance Cost

Trying to figure out how much will my car insurance cost can be difficult because so many factors come into play. Just to give you an idea though, in Michigan, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Montana and Washington DC you’ll pay on average a couple thousand dollars or more yearly. The most affordable on average are Vermont followed by South Carolina and Maine. But if you are trying to choose state to save money and compare all insurance offers in your city other things have to be accounted for.

Factors that Affect Insurance Premium Cost

Your credit score, traffic tickets and accidents will affect auto insurance rates, but what many drivers don’t realize is that the state you live in can have a dramatic effect on the cost of insurance for various reasons. As the figures given earlier shows, you need to choose state to save money and compare all insurance offers in your city because the cost of auto insurance in Michigan is nearly two and half times higher than Vermont.

What this means is that the state judicial system and laws can drive the cost of car insurance up or down. Generally speaking the rates are proportional to the number of uninsured drivers in the state, so if a state has a high percentage of uninsured drivers, the cost will be passed to the drivers, so the rates are higher. However, those studying how to choose state to save money and compare all insurance offers in your city should also realize that the geography plays a huge role in determining auto insurance cost. Vermont has very little traffic and plenty of rural territory so car insurance is very low. Oklahoma on other hand, is susceptible to tornadoes and unpredictable weather, so insurance is more expensive there.

Location, Driving History and Other Factors

In other words, geographical demographics at both state and city level affects the cost of insurance. It’s for this reason why states like Michigan, New Jersey and New York tend to be expensive, and Vermont, South Carolina and Maine are cheaper by comparison.  But aside from the location, your driving record will be considered. If you are wondering how much will my car insurance cost it will depend on what kind of driver you are.  If you’re a safe driver, have no violations and taken safety driving lessons you can expect to pay less than the average, but if you have a poor driving record then you will pay more. If you are calculating how much will my car insurance cost remember that parking tickets, speeding tickets and other citations will be factored in, so it’s best to be upfront about your record.

Your credit history rating will be factored in as well. In the past car owners with a poor credit history had a difficult time getting insurance, but that isn’t the case now since many auto insurance companies tend to be more lenient. More than your credit score, it’s your driving history that is examined closely by insurance companies.
